My journey

My journey to becoming a psychotherapist has been influenced by various experiences from my family of origin, navigating the world as an educator, my passion for yoga & mindfulness, and an inherent curiosity about people’s stories, backgrounds, and lives. In witnessing people’s stories, I continued to be in awe of the resilience of the human spirit.

I wanted to know more; I wanted to see more and understand how some humans bounce back after severely traumatic events and others face more difficulties. I also noticed a part of me that wanted to help, walk alongside, listen, and provide a space for all parts to be welcomed. My curiosity, combined with my passion for wellbeing, yoga, and mindfulness, led me to complete my formal training as a psychotherapist.

I am eternally grateful for being able to call Canada, China, South Korea, Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia and now Malawi home. My cross-cultural experiences have given me unique insights into the beauty of humans. I continued to be met in all countries with kindness, love, compassion, and curiosity. What I am left with is a sense of common humanity; no matter where we are in the world or where we are from, at the end of the day, we are all human – and what a gift that is.

I am currently based in Malawi, where I work as a secondary school counsellor at an international school in Lilongwe. I live here with my family, which includes our two dogs. All sessions are conducted online via a secure video platform.

In my spare time, you can find me on my yoga mat, walking our dogs around our neighbourhood, baking up a storm, playing outside with my family, and relaxing on the sofa watching tv. I am so glad you are here, and I look forward to playing a role in your evolving journey.

My Approach

All parts are welcome

My role as a psychotherapist is to create a space where curiosity, compassion, and radical acceptance are held to enable you to get to know your Self better and move toward healing. My role is walking alongside you through the ups and downs of life. The client is always at the center of my approach. Each human, sometimes with varying levels of support, can direct their work in therapy. As equal partners and collaborators in therapy, we work together to explore, get curious, connect, and dig deep into all parts.

My therapeutic approach is based on the Internal Family Systems (IFS) model and integrates mindfulness, breath work, and somatic interventions. The body, mind, and brain are integrated into my therapeutic approach. Our bodies often hold onto experiences and memories that we may not even be aware of. Part of our work together is to get to know our bodies and any somatic symptoms we may be experiencing.

I am passionate about the IFS model and approach, which informs the foundation of my work with clients. IFS is an evidence-based psychotherapeutic model that is non-pathological and integrates both human cognitive and emotional life. At the heart of IFS is the concept of parts and understanding how these different parts interact, much like a family inside of us. To learn more about IFS, I invite you to read Derek Scott’s recent article.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a powerful therapeutic approach that helps you explore and understand the different parts of your inner self. By addressing inner conflicts and fostering compassion for all parts of yourself, IFS empowers lasting emotional healing.
